We’re just under 4 weeks away from the opening matches of the 2012 RBS Six Nations Rugby and rugby fever is already brewing in the Dublin City Inn. Most of the staff support Ireland but we’ve one or two guys who moved from the UK and there is always a friendly rivalry between the nationalities. Ireland did pretty well last year but I’m hoping they’ll be back to their 2009 performance when we swept the board.
Whichever team you support I think the atmosphere on match days in Dublin makes our city the best to come and enjoy the match – and there is always a pub to watch the match if the stadium is sold out or if it’s simply too cold! This year we welcome Wales on the opening weekend (February 6th), followed by Italy 2 weeks late (Saturday 25th February) and Scotland in March (Saturday 10th) and we still have limited availability on our great Dublin city centre hotel deals.
We offer our guest’s a great city centre hotel location with the Aviva Stadium only a 20 minute walk. If you hop on the DART at Connolly its just 5 minutes to Lansdowne Road. Stop off at one of the great bars on the way; celebrate a win at one of the lively bars and party the night away in Temple Bar.
Come On Ireland! Lets prove that were still a force to be reckoned with!!
We are all in the Christmas spirit here at Dublin City Inn and looking forward to the holidays. I’ve still couple of last minute gifts and am extremely glad Clerys department store and the Jervis shopping centre are just 2 minutes round the corner! This year the famous Clerys Christmas windows are better than ever but I think Jervis has gone bit over the top with all the lights.
An exciting addition to Dublin shopping is the Christmas Markets at the docklands. Filled with lots of stalls and chalets selling handcrafted gits and delicious treats you’re sure to find the perfect treat or stocking filler.
If you’re bringing the family to Dublin 7 Up Wonderland, Irelands largest winter park, is taking place at The Royal Hospital Kilmainham at the moment. Bring the kids along and hop on the Luas from Abbey Street which will take you there in only 7 minutes.
The Dublin Leopardstown Race meeting is commencing over the festive period with some of the most exciting horses racing around the famous track to get the adrenalin going and chance your luck on the races. Leopardstown itself hosts and interesting name in Gaelic meaning ‘’Bale an Lobhair‘’ which translates to ‘’the town of the lepers”.
If you’ve not visited Dublin before we have all the major attractions nearby including Guinness Storehouse , Jameson Distillery and Dublin zoo for a great day out with the kids and relax with us at our fantastic Dublin city centre hotel midweek deal of €49.00 in January 2012!

Fancy that crisp German beer, but cant find that authentic taste in Dublin? Well fear not as Oktoberfest festival is about to grace Irish soil! Oktoberfest will be coming from Germany to Dublin for 10 days which will give people who have not yet tasted authentic German beer a chance to. Twenty four Oktoberfest barmaids will also be descending onto Georges Dock for some fun, food, entertainment and beer. German style!
There will also be a market which will offer German cuisine from German producers, and you can also learn to sing a yodel, dance the polka while traditional musicians Die Alpen play throughout the ten day event. You can also check out our Local Area page for inspiration on other events taking place
If you’re looking for an amazing value restaurant in Dublin you can’t beat Sagaar on Stephens Green. Available 7 nights a week, the 3 course menu (with 3 or 4 choices per course) is €40 for 2 including a bottle of wine. The portions are slightly smaller than ala carte (2 pieces of Sheek Kebab starter instead of 3) but I always though the regular portions bit too generous and this was perfect for us. The set menu also included pilau rice and a naan to share.
The white wine was a bit rough but the red was very good [I’m not saying that because the red was our second bottle – been here on couple of occasions
]
It was fairly quiet the evenings we’ve been but for reservations please call Sagaar Harcourt Street on +353 (0)1 475 5060
Yesterday the last of our brand new beds were delivered. All our rooms now feature incredibly comfortable mattresses for a perfect nights sleep.
We’re delighted to tell you all that we have just undergone our re-branding, and are now officially called Dublin City Inn. Same great place to stay, same great staff. We hope you like our new logo and identity, let us know what you think!
We’re delighted to announce that we’ve taken advantage of the quieter period in January to make some changes in the hotel.
A good nights sleep in a comfy bed followed by a great shower and good breakfast the next morning – to us that’s the essential essence of a hotel. We’ve been listening to our guest feedback and have invested in upgrading the water system and replaced many of the beds throughout the hotel. You can really feel the extra water pressure and for those of us who enjoy a steamy hot shower we also invested in better boilers. We made sure to choose condensing boilers which are more efficient so better for the environment too.
Our new beds are also Heavenly Hypnos beds. The deep-filled mattresses give firm support to your back but are gently cushioned for a super nights sleep.
We hope you’ll enjoy experiencing the difference on your next stay in our central Dublin hotel.
