We’re delighted to tell you all that we have just undergone our re-branding, and are now officially called Dublin City Inn. Same great place to stay, same great staff. We hope you like our new logo and identity, let us know what you think!
We’re delighted to announce that we’ve taken advantage of the quieter period in January to make some changes in the hotel.
A good nights sleep in a comfy bed followed by a great shower and good breakfast the next morning – to us that’s the essential essence of a hotel. We’ve been listening to our guest feedback and have invested in upgrading the water system and replaced many of the beds throughout the hotel. You can really feel the extra water pressure and for those of us who enjoy a steamy hot shower we also invested in better boilers. We made sure to choose condensing boilers which are more efficient so better for the environment too.
Our new beds are also Heavenly Hypnos beds. The deep-filled mattresses give firm support to your back but are gently cushioned for a super nights sleep.
We hope you’ll enjoy experiencing the difference on your next stay in our central Dublin hotel.
There are a whole host of things to do with children in Dublin for kids big and small. From O’Connell Street all the activities we’ve picked are either a short walk or easily reached by bus or on the Luas.
Our absolute favourite a visit to Dublin Zoo is sure to bring a smile to everyone’s faces. Home to hundreds of animals including zebras, gorillas, beavers, orangutans, penguins to mention just a few! The Meerkat Restaurant is a great spot to stop for lunch or a simple[s] snack where the inquisitive meerkats love to watch you in your habitat. Finding a good value hotel close to Dublin Zoo can be difficult but the Red Luas stop at Heuston Station is only 15 minutes walk or hop on Dublin Bus number 25/25A at Pearse Street straight to Phoenix Park gates.
A trip to the cinema in Dublin can be a great way to entertain the kids if the weather isn’t too great. With two of Dublin’s best less than 1km from the hotel it can be a great way to catch the latest must-see. The Savoy is literally round the corner on O’Connell Street or Cineworld is located on Parnell Street. Both are comfortable with a number of big-screens showing the latest releases and 3-D blockbusters.
Kids love the gruesome and the gory and there are some excellent Viking attractions to explore this aspect of the city’s history. One of the best is to see the city is on a Splash Dublin Viking Tours. The guides take you on a fascinating and lively tour around the city by land and water on the amphibious World War II DUKWs. Tours depart from their HQ at St Patrick’s or St Stephens Green.
I’d recommend finishing your tour at St Patricks and then continuing the Viking experience at nearby Dublinia. Incorporating three exhibitions (Viking Dublin, Medieval Dublin and History Hunters) it is the perfect place for families to spend an afternoon together. The ticket also includes entry to St Michael’s Tower (used in the seventeenth century as a viewing platform and to this day offers impressive views of the city to the Dublin Mountains) and Christchurch Cathedral.
Since it reopened, many top sporting events and international concerts now take place at the Aviva Stadium. Hotel prices in the Ballsbridge area are amongst the highest in the city, for better value and better location why not stay with us? From our hotel, Connelly Station is a short walk and the frequent DART runs to Lansdowne Road Station in less than 10 minutes.

There are many ways of getting to the O2 Arena from Talbot Street. Our city centre location off O’Connell Street means the Abbey St Luas stop is literally 2 minutes walk around the corner and thanks to the extension the tram will take you straight to the Point Depot in less than 10 minutes. Your ticket is valid for 90 minutes from time of issue so you can get off and drop in to one of the bars in the IFSC along the way for a quick drink – the Harbourmaster at Custom House Quay always has a good atmosphere and some outdoor seating.
On event evenings the O2 organise shuttle buses. The closest stop to us picks up on Amiens Street outside Connolly Station and it’s just a couple of minutes walk at the end of Talbot Street. The service runs every 20 minutes and costs €5 return, journey time varies with the traffic but it usually only takes about 10 minutes to get there.
Walking to the O2 along the Quays can be lovely on a nice evening. The redevelopment work over the last few years is more or less complete and there are lots of great places to stop along the way. To avoid the rush we recommend going for an early meal or drink, please take a look at our Restaurants near the O2 Dublin blog post for tips on the best places to visit. The O2 Point is about 2km from the hotel, and if you don’t stop along the way should take less than half an hour to walk there.
Our O2 Arena Map will help you find your way and any pub, restaurant or other facility you might need in the vicinity.
The good news for concert goers is there are some really great value restaurants near the O2 Dublin. Some of our top suggestions nearby the venue include:
| Bridge Bar & Grill |
Malting Tower, Grand Canal Quay, D2
|
| Friendly bistro style restaurant with international menu. On the opposite bank so it’s easier to get a table on event nights, cross over the new Samuel Beckett Bridge and it’s a couple of minutes walk. | |

| Messrs Maguires |
Burgh Quay, D2
|
| A Dublin institution literally just the other side of the O’Connell Bridge. Great pub menu and amazing choice of microbrewery ales | |
| +353 (0) 1 670 5777 | |
| Milano |
Clarion Quay, D1
|
| Their restaurant in the heart of the IFSC features all the great pizza and pasta choices you’d expect from this popular chain | |

| Toss’d Noodles & Salads |
CHQ Building, D1
|
| Excellent choice for a quick and nutritious snack or early evening supper. All the food is prepared fresh in front of you. Our top suggestion is the roast teriyaki chicken with shanghai egg noodles. | |

These are my favourite Dublin Docklands restaurants and perfect for beating the rush before a gig at the O2 in Dublin:
| Il Vignardo |
Store Street, Dublin 1
|
| The sensational menu blends traditional and modern Italian flavours. The restaurant was voted “Best Value Restaurant in Dublin” by Eddie Hobbs magazine so you know it’s going to be great value for money. | |
| +353 (0) 1 855 3099 | |
| Ely Bar & Brasserie |
CHQ, Dublin1
|
| Located inside the CHQ building this lively and stylish restaurant has fantastic dishes and is perfect for a special occasion or celebration. I could easily spend the night in Ely sampling from the extensive wine list (200 choices) with 80 different wines by the glass! | |

We hope you have a brilliant time at your gig and perhaps enjoy dinner at one of our suggested restaurants. We’re always on the lookout for new places to try and if you have any suggestions please leave us a comment or find us on Facebook
We promised to keep bringing you our recommendations so we’ve been out and about to find the best Dublin city centre restaurants for you to enjoy.
If you’re not sure what you’re in the mood for, or there’s a group of you all with different tastes, tapas is the perfect solution: just go in and lots of plates of wonderful nibbly things. I recently tried Salamanca on St Andrews Street for the first time and was very impressed. Its just around the corner from the tourist office but definitely not a tourist trap. The food was excellent (their meatballs are a must), wine good value with decent bottles around €24 and service friendly and efficient. My personal rule of thumb when ordering tapas is 3 dishes per person, here the portions were little bigger than normal and 2.5 would have been enough (still finished them all of course). Salamance also has a sister restaurant round the corner on Dame Street.
In a similar vain, YO! Sushi is one of my favourite spots for lunch in Dublinspots. Situated on Claredon Street it’s just behind Brown Thomas so if you’re enjoying a shopping trip to Grafton Street you don’t have to go far for great food. Funky, fresh and fun, the array of dishes available is mind boggling. Again, my recommendation is everyone to pick few different dishes. If you’re a YO! virgin the staff explain how it all works but you’ll have no problems getting the hang of it – not getting carried away and eating everything and anything that goes past on the conveyor belt might be harder!
For Sunday brunch, and a bit of a treat, Eden it’s my top suggestion – one of the girls here had an early bird dinner last week and raved about the place so we’re very confident about this recommendation! Eden is in the heart of Temple Bar on Meeting House Square and adjacent the Gallery of Photography. They’re passionate about Irish food and this is reflected in their menu stuffed full of classic dishes using top quality Irish produce with beef from Co Carlow and free range chickens from Monaghan.
I’ve been saving the best for last with my latest discovery of Sabor Brazil off Camden Street. It’s slightly further from our O’Connell Street hotel than I’d normally recommend to you but it’s still only 30 minutes walk or short taxi ride and well worth it. Unassuming from outside, inside it is slightly eccentric in style but that all adds to the charm. The menu is extensive but not very vegetarian friendly. I won’t spoil the surprises of this absolute gem and skip to the most amazing thing – we were a party of 4, enjoyed 3 courses and enjoyed 4 bottles of wine (not sure how that happened) but the bill came to just over €200 in total. The best example yet of the great value now available in Dublin.
I hope you get a chance to try these suggestions when you visit Dublin. If you’ve recommendations you think we should mention we’d be delighted to hear them. Leave me a comment or find us on Facebook.
Get more bang for your buck by booking cheap Dublin city centre hotel deals.
I used to think cheap was a negative word. In these times there are better deals than ever before but cheap doesn’t always mean good value for money. At Days Hotels we’ve always believed in being the “Best Value Under the Sun” and are thrilled to keep bringing you the best Dublin hotel deals.
On match and days looking near Croke Park for a hotel room can be near impossible. With only a limited number of hotels next to the stadium they fill up very quickly (and charge top price). It’s very handy for getting to the match but why not stay in the heart of the action and enjoy the post-match celebrations in the city centre? Getting to the stadium it’s only about a 15 minute walk (plenty of great pubs and bars along the way in case you need refreshment) afterwards the best nights out can be found around us here in the city centre.
Who could have thought that just off O’Connell Street in Dublin hotels could be so cheap yet such good value!?
Why pay more for hotels near the O2 Arena? We know how much ticket prices are to see your favourite act so don’t spend more than you need on your hotel room. Since the Red Luas line extension opened, you can jump on the tram round the corner at Abbey Street (usually running every 8 minutes) and it’ll take you straight to the Point Depot in about 7. There are some amazing performances coming to Dublin over the next few weeks – we’re most looking forward to Whitney Houston (17-20 April) and the Black Eyed Peas (1-2 May).
Just because you book a cheap central Dublin hotel deal doesn’t mean you should comprimise on quality. We still have free wifi throughout the hotel, heavenly hypnos beds with crisp white linen for extra comfort and serve a fantastic breakfast each morning.
If you’re coming to Dublin for a night out you’re bound to want to hit one of the world famous Dublin night clubs. Hang out with A-list celebs (and Westlife) any night at Lillies Bordello off Grafton Street. Friday night is WAR at Spy on South William – we’ve been a few times now and always great crowd, great music and great fun. On Saturdays we’d recommend PROPAGANDA at The Academy just couple of minutes walk from the hotel on Middle Abbey Street.
This April you’re going to be spoilt for choice at the Dublin theatres. The Grand Canal Theatre has opened its doors (although not its car park but that won’t matter if you’re staying with us as we’ve our own parking available), Rufus Wainwright returns to Dublin for the first time in 3 years on 28th April and the master of psychological illusion, Derren Brown, brings his latest show Enigma to Dublin 15 – 17th April. Evita, one of the most famous and inspiring musicals ever produced, comes to the Gaiety from 13th April till May 1st. Or, starring Aiden Kelly in the title role of this critically acclaimed production, Macbeth runs from April 7th till May 15th at the Abbey Theatre.

As a native of Dublin, I’d like to share one of my favourite family restaurants in Dublin City. When I say family, it’s ideal if you have the little ones with you during the day, but equally as good for a group of friends on a hen night looking for a bit of craic.
If you’re staying at Days Inn Dublin City, then it’s only a 10 minute walk.
Captain America’s in Grafton Street in the heart of the city has to be the best diner in the city. Perfect for a Saturday afternoon and prices are good for the city centre. Sip on a cocktail or a cool pitcher of beer while you browse over the menu of burgers, steaks, pasta and fish. Their burgers are legendary, I always order the same one. Kids are always welcome and will love the decor, especially the huge mural of Captain America on the wall. They have live music some evenings, but the best part has to be the great photos and memorabilia on the walls of Irish film stars, bands etc. It’s a great spot to kick back and relax if you are looking for a break from the shops. Just walk down Grafton Street, and you will see it over the Footlocker store. Keep your eyes open though, It’s easily missed as there’s only a narrow door for an entrance! Why not check out their website www.captainamericas.com . Although they opened other branches, they really don’t have the buzz of Grafton Street, so make this your first choice.
Dublin city centre is a fun place to go out in, and our hotel is right in the heart of it. Whether you’re going to a concert, match, gig, theatre or just for a night out Dublin is a fantastic city and our hotel is in the heart of it all – which is why we decided to do this Blog. We want to keep you updated with all the latest news from the hotel and whats going on in the area.
Days Inn Talbot Street is the perfect Croke Park hotel base with just a short 2km walk (about 15 minutes) to the stadium. There are some great pubs if you need refreshments on the way and whether celebrating or commiserating you’re spoilt for choice afterwards.
The hotel is just off O’Connell street so we’re a great base for exploring the whole city. Famous for the GPO, Spire and shopping there’s lots to see right outside our front door. Henry Street is home to the ever popular Arnotts, all the high street stores and the Jervis and Ilac shopping centres.
We’ll be keeping you posted with all the upcoming big events at the best venues around Dublin. The new O2 always has a great line-up and as you can see from the hotels O2 Arena page its easier than ever to get to the Point, either on the Luas or its only a 2km walk.
At Days Hotels we firmly believe in giving you the “Best Value Under the Sun” so we’re thrilled that the rest of the city is now thinking like us. Across all restaurants and bars we’re seeing better value for money than ever before and going out in Dublin isn’t nearly as expensive as it used to be. Knowing you want to get the most from your hard earned money we have some fantastic, recession busting cheap central Dublin hotel deals to help you stretch your budget even further.
The city’s nightlife is second to none and all the best Dublin night clubs are located nearby. Whatever kind of music you’re looking for you’ll find it at one (or more) of the clubs and you can be sure of a great crowd and great night.
We’re lucky to have some truly world class theatres hosting contemporary and classical plays. The Ambassador, Abbey, Gaiety and Olympia are all close by and you can read more about them on our hotels special Dublin Theatres website page.
We look forward to keeping you posted with the best of whats on and hope to welcome you to Dublin and our hotel very soon.
